Almond is the traditional granita, but there are plenty of other flavours to choose from such as strawberry, coffee, lemon, mint and red orange.  On our last day in Sicily I stumbled across hazelnut granita and it was delicious.

Granita is the consistancey of a slurpie or slush puppie.  It is similar to gelato but made from water and ice and sugar rather than milk.  It is traditionaly from Sicily, however you will find it all around Italy but not of the quality and the varieties of flavour.

Its generally eaten at breakfast with a brioche (a sweet bread).
